it is if you don’t use it, but many people shop mostly or even exclusively on the platform. order more than once a week and it’s a fair value. i know some who make 10-20 orders a week and every day is a ‘prime delivery day’.

WTF I thought my one order every one to one and a half weeks due to my sheer laziness was getting excessive.

As for Prime getting commercials, it’s a good thing Prime somehow manages to have barely any content worth watching where they could possibly insert commercials for me. I’m assuming this will not apply to movies you pay to rent.

I don’t order at the last minute so for me it doesnt make any difference if it comes in 2 days or 5 days

Right now there’s a section in prime video that’s titled free with ads(only if you have prime). After the change, all prime videos will be in that section.

‘free with ads’ is literally free to watch, with ads, no prime membership requirement. a prime membership won’t shed the ads there now… or next year. it’s a different selection of programs or a separate service (like freevee, aka imdb tv).

the ‘channels’ you pay extra for now? that’ll probably be up to the individual provider of that programming and their future deals with amazon to be on the platform… but the infrastructure for them to add ads is there.

They increased the price of Prime already to like $160 a year and now they’re adding ads while saying if you don’t want ads you can pay another $2.99?

Yeah I got rid of it a few months ago (UK). They no longer guarantee same day or even next day delivery (stuff seems to just arrive whenever). Since I cancelled Prime I’ve placed a couple of Amazon orders and they just didn’t arrive. It was really hard to complain as well, the page was buried down a rabbit hole of links. I’ve decided to stop using them completely now, the quality of stuff on there is terrible.

This is a win win for them. I don’t think anybody has prime for just prime video. It’s just an additional perk. The main perk is the free one day and two day shipping. Even if people stop watching prime video, they’re mostly not going to cancel their prime because there are other perks they use. If they keep the membership but don’t watch prime video, then that is resource savings for Amazon which translates to less operating costs. If they do watch it, that translates to ad revenue. Either way, win win. At this point there is pretty much no reason not to sail the high seas.

It used to be really tough to unsubscribe from Prime, but Amazon was getting sued for that so they made it easier to unsubscribe.

Cool. I thought about getting Prime Video this winter to catch up on some exclusives, but that’s apparently not happening. I’m not paying for ads, and I don’t think I’ll find $3/month increase over current prices worthwhile.

I bailed at the last price increase (wasn’t watching or ordering much anyway), and this just encourages me to look elsewhere. I guess I’ll go back to buying DVDs…

I’ll still pay for prime for deliveries, but I’ll stop watching their mediocre streaming service. Ads are viscerally disgusting.

I suspect the deliveries is bullshit anyways. I cancelled my prime, shipping is still free, but they claim it will be 3-5 days. In reality I get them in 1-2 days anyways.
