  • The initial plan had been for the first fab to achieve full production this year, but the timeline was delayed due to several workforce challenges. These included difficulties in finding skilled workers locally, cultural differences between TSMC’s Taiwanese management and American employees, and a shortage of skilled construction workers that slowed the building process. This delay raised concerns about TSMC’s ability to maintain efficiency with its US operations compared to its facilities in Taiwan.

Recent success in trial production has alleviated some of these concerns. TSMC has confirmed that the Arizona project is progressing as planned, although the company has not commented specifically on yield rates.

  • Less chat bots on Lemmy, and they seem to be easily identifiable and ignored/reported.

Lemmy isn’t quite at that sweet spot where there are enough daily users to get niche content and information from a group of knowledgeable people - but some communities seem to be quite active and helpful already.

I’d love to get to the point where we have a big science/history community and get some non-celebrity AMA’s that have genuine interaction.

I’m more than happy for Lemmy to stay “underground” for a good while, slowly building communities. Once things hit a critical mass and wind up on corporate radar, lemmy will get swarmed and another migration will happen with the same core groups that joined lemmy early.

  • I’ve wondered about this, killing the “company” never really seemed like that big of a deal, as the structure (both physical building/tool/systems and operationally) don’t simply vanish. You still have the knowledge and skillsets in the population, and the supply chains still exist.

The real problem with these “too big to fail” entities is that the people pulling the levers that cause failures never have any consequences whatsoever.

Yeah, you’ll always need banks, energy, transportation, defence etc - operational mechanisms for exchanging goods, building, buying etc will never go away or ‘fail’ - but their operational practices absolutely could and should change

I’m so sick of the wealth class abusing absolutely everything to guarantee themselves more money than they could ever spend.

  • I’ve been getting the Samsung ‘plus’ models several years after they come out for a couple hundred bucks and still can’t find a reason to upgrade from the S10+

New phones are way too expensive for a better camera and marginally faster apps, which would be entirely out matched by a dedicated camera at the same price.

Surprise surprise, I also drive an old ranger that has aux but no Bluetooth so everything works out

  • You’re previous, brief, comment literally mentioned media fear mongering - apparently it was imaginary media fear mongering tied to an imaginary scenario involving millions of interactions between men and woment and only two rapes (not sure how media fear mongering ties into an imagined hypothetical.)

You are all over the road bud.

I’m saying that it’s not media that’s brainwashed women into believing some Rape bogeyman exists - Imaginary scenario or not.

It’s that every single woman personally knows someone(s) who has been raped/roofied/sex assaulted/groped etc. and they don’t need media hype to come to the conclusion that being raped in any environment is always a possibility. This is a very sad fact that women live with every single day.

Not sure how you perceived that as an accusation that you don’t believe in Rape

  • Most of the “fearmongering” is actually women talking about their experiences.

When media fearmongers Rape, it’s mostly by informing the public about rapists being sentenced to very light sentences, or rapists facing no jail time, or violent rapists being released.

Either that or they outright victim blame and discuss what someone was wearing, where they were, who they were with etc, basically inferring that if she was safely at home under a man’s protection, it wouldn’t be possible for her to be raped - so look at all the safety she threw away to be reckless (outside without a male partner) and have fun (literally existing while being a woman walking sex organ waiting to be claimed).

Honestly, there’s plenty of reasons to make fun of boomers/millennial/genZ but the reality is each generation has Republican and Democrat voters.

I’m not gonna suggest that Democrats always have the best interests of working class people in mind - but their camp does contain progressives, which is something that Republicans lack entirely.

At the end of the day, all our problems can be traced to income inequality that is largely pushed by Republicans (and a huge dose of “trusted media” espousing outright lies).

You can absolutely have a business oriented economy whose government protects it’s people from abusive and predatory businesses practices while providing great education and healthcare for free.

It’s something we’d all benefit from (even the wealthy, but it’d be less profitable) but something we’ll never have because every generation has Republican voters who show up 100% of the time - and Democrat voters who barely show up, can’t agree on anything, and require emotional inspiration to even begin to participate in politics.

In fact, now that we’re literally watching Nazis take over the Republican party - anyone from any generation who votes Republican now is far worse than anyone who voted R in the past before the middle class was destroyed.

The Republican party is evolving into its final form of purest facisim, something that was plausibly deniable 10 years ago.

Bottom line is we’re at a point in society where feelings and opinions are the only reality for a lot of people. It will be the death of democracy, and they’ll go to their graves in chains they put on themselves believing they made the right choice, because why would anyone ever choose to feel regret or acknowledge the consequences of their own actions?

  • Government/police insist on having basically unlimited ability to spy on people within the US, and then maybe catch a part of one operation after collecting heaps of evidence over months/years with tons of victims irrevocably harmed - and eventually a few main people get like 3-5 years in prison on a plea deal.

I get the whole “building a case” thing, but letting multiple children get abused, while other sickos learn the ropes to eventually “get enough evidence” so a few people can plead guilty for a comparatively light prison sentences is absurd. Shut anything about it down immediately. Even if it doesn’t go to trial/conviction I’m sure the police have creative capacities to deal with child abusers outside of prison.

And people still think sex education in school is about teaching children how to preform sex acts, instead of helping them avoid predators.

  • I just got a blue ray of samurai champloo - mostly because I’m sick of media in general cycling through multiple streaming services only to become unavailable.

The SC blue ray came with a digital copy from funimation (now crunchyroll). I saw online that it’s basically a scam that doesn’t work so to see for myself I created a paid account to hopefully get access to the digital download.

I found out it was unsupported, and at best it would only be available online and with an account - no opportunity for actual download/ownership.

So I immediately cancelled subscription and had them fully delete my account. I figured complaining about their shit policy by cancelling a paid service and fully deleting an account would hit some metrics at least.

When there’s a show/movie I really enjoy, I either buy physical, or torrent so I actually have it. Only some things on the internet are forever, and with the volume of content being created, “permanent” is now often only for a few months before it becomes nearly impossible to find again.

  • I’m happy I found this show when I was 17, heard about it through an acquaintance, and found the English subs on Kazaa.

Perfect show at the perfect time of my life, definitely has a massive nostalgia factor and helped me work through some stuff.

If I were to see it for the first time today, 20 years later, I’m not sure it would have the same impact.

While it may not be for everyone, Evangelion is the standalone best anime for me and I rewatch it often.
