This is why the Bible is kind of a drag without the new testament. God is emotionally volitile, punitive, and illogical. Jesus provides a framework for redemption, which is what people need here in this life. Reading the new testament, even without the magic and miracles and omnipresent sky-god can give people real ideas about how they should interact with others in this corporeal existence. The old testament feels like kind of a bizarre fairy tale with some historical elements.

I’m talking about the Christ who died and was reborn to fulfill the prophesy, not a rabbi from Nazareth named Jesus. I imagine there was more than one man named Jesus, more than one rabbi, more than one temple smashing rabble rouser. None of them performed miracles, none of them were reborn, that’s fiction. Do you not understand the difference?

I’ve made films and one of my closest friends is a model. Nobody is all that attractive in any objective sense. Moreover, nobody cares how smart anyone else is, and if someone seems loved by everyone around them, congratulate them for finding their tribe. Go find yours and worry less about other people.

Idk I think without the new testament, the Bible is kind of a drag. I like the idea of redemption much more than an unknowable, complicated, emotionally volitile sky-god. And when I refer to Jesus I mean the Christ who died and came back to life to fulfill the prophesy. I’m sure there was at least one rabbi named Jesus out there, but without the metaphysical (fictional) stuff I quickly lose interest.

Ok, this is where we have a disconnect. Do you know how many translators, pop idols, and artists who sell their work at any kind of price there are? It’s not many. Look up how much the average author gets paid for their first book at a publishing house and you’ll see why pretty much all writers teach. You can be really good at STEM and make more than a teacher in your field, but the same isn’t true at all for arts, foreign languages, writing, phys ed… Even history and social studies.
