As to your question, seems like the environment is too restrictive in the UK right now so people are outsourcing their gambling access. I lost interest in the subject after that(sorry most gambling adjacent I get is penny Texas hold 'em with some friends) and stopped looking.
People tend to forget about that part. Money is what is exchanged with you for your labor and then you exchange that for goods. Sure an increase in funds would mean a bunch of people could live better for a while. But then trash would pile up, waste water would become a monumental issue. A lot of gross, vile, disgusting, and extremely necessary work would suddenly stop getting done.
Everyone likes to pretend that they’d be willing to step up and tackle those jobs. But they really won’t. I’m positive that the percentage of people willing to do those jobs for enough resources to live comfortably is in the single digits. I know damn sure the amount of doctors willing to work for a one bedroom, one car, and enough food living situation is in the single digits.
Realistically? There really isn’t. Even if you “eww” the one on the right it’s still preference. Other people deem it phobic when your preferences exclude theirs. The moment you yuck their yum, then it’s “phobic”.

Reasons.
Exact opposite. I need a plot where the characters aren’t complete bone heads and the plot needs to be deeper than “some dude grabs a knife”. Because of this I tend to enjoy horror thrillers more than slashers. It’s the reason most of my favorites are things like “The Crazies”, “You’re Next”, and “The Strangers”. That isn’t to say that I need high fidelity or effects. Some good entries there are “Splinter”, “Vacancy”, and (to a lesser degree) “Rest Stop”.

Agreed. I’ve often referred to it when talking to my friend group as “emptying the bucket”. Everyone has things they think or feel that are “NOT OK©”. And for the most part we realize that these things aren’t to be mentioned in polite society as it would do fuck all to help any situation. So we add those drops of venom to the bucket. And we fill, and fill, and fill, and fill until we either find an outlet to empty it or it spills over and becomes an unhinged rant on some form of social media or a public freak out.
Private conversation with friends is supposed to be where you can empty the bucket without it harming others or, usually, getting you in trouble. It’s supposed to be between you and the other person. Not something the other person is stockpiling for the day they need to cancel you.
And I want people to have places or people they can empty the bucket with. I want people to be able to get all the venom out and then go be a person who functions in the social systems we have in place.

If you take into account harvesting and application, they are not. They are cheaper(in certain countries) on the consumer end. But that’s rare.

Cadmium, lithium and nickel mining are not cheaper than oil extraction and are more harmful to the environment.
Mass duplicate rare earth metals at a rate that would crash economies and make white goods and alternative energy sources actually cheaper than fossil fuels.
Then while the world’s having an absolute fit trying to recover from that, I’d find a way to duplicate expensive and hard to make medicine till it’s functionally worth less than the packaging it comes in.
