I’d recommend POP!_OS. Very easy to install and use and most games I’ve tried to play work without any problems.

I’ve been told what it means yet every time I see it my brain goes “for the…” and I can’t figure out the last 2 letters. And I have to look it up to be reminded that it means “fixed that for you”. But every time I forget and I have to look it up again.
Play games on GeForce NOW at a higher resolution than 1080p. :-/
I really like it so far, especially with the new apps. I’m using Boost and I honestly can’t tell the difference between this and the old Boost for Reddit. The transition is really smooth. Oh, and everything on Lemmy feels very intuitive and the people seem less toxic.
And Mastodon…I really like it. I’ll post something with the right hashtags and suddenly there’s a conversation between a bunch of people with the same interests that goes on for weeks!
Avalonia does support Linux. :)
Yeah it’s insane how expensive everything gets. I’m subscribed to a bunch of streaming services (like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, etc) and sometimes I use them a lot but HBO, for instance, I’ve only used a few times and it’s just sitting there on our smart TV taking up space and draining our bank account. But I got it when there was a really good deal and if I cancel and resubscribe I have to pay the full amount. Then again, I’m probably wasting more money with it now than I would’ve if I’d just cancelled and then resubscribed when I actually used it. Oops.
But yeah, I’m definitely not going to pay more for those services than I am now, so if the pricing gets even more ridiculous I’m out.
I’m from Europe, and for years I’d been using WhatsApp because everyone expected me to even though I didn’t feel comfortable using it at all (because I care about my privacy and apparently not all of my friends/family members do). At some point I was forced to accept new terms that basically said it was okay for them to sell my data and that’s where I drew the line and told everyone that I would no longer be using WhatsApp and that if they wanted to reach me they could call me, text me or message me on Telegram. I immediately uninstalled it.
I noticed friends and family found it a bit odd and inconvenient that I’d stopped using WhatsApp. And many companies seem to use WhatsApp to contact their customers (why can’t they just email me instead…) and it seems they automatically assume everyone uses it, which I find a bit annoying. But ever since uninstalling it no one has been able to convince me to reinstall it and I plan to keep it that way.
Some of my favourite that bring back good memories:
Joey, and Boost up until a few years ago.
Thanks so much for everything!
I have an account and never posted anything because it feels intimidating to post my first…post there. (Do people on Mastodon call it post or is there a different word similar to Twitter’s ‘tweets’?).
It looks really good though, but I find it more intimidating than Lemmy / kbin!
But Huffman says the “pure infrastructure costs” of supporting these apps costs Reddit about $10 million each year.
Eh, so although, according to him, the third party apps cost Reddit 10 million per year, he still decided that 20 million a year from a single third party app developer is reasonable? I think he needs to learn some basic math…
I like it! Has a nice ring to it.
Hang on, when I go to the Reddark website now a bunch of subreddits have gone from private to public. Is it because it’s the 14th or because someone intervened with the protest?
Wow! And it was around 11000 last weekend?! This is great!
Actually I accidentally clicked a Reddit link on Google earlier today and (I don’t remember the subreddit) my first thought was: I’m pretty sure this subreddit took part in the blackout so why can I see its posts like nothing happened?
Yeah, I always like to check Reddit just before I go to sleep, to get sleepy, or when I can’t sleep. Or when I’m waiting for something and there’s nothing else to do to pass the time at that moment. So I’ll automatically open Joey and…well, I guess that’s the end of that.
I know what you mean! I know it’s gonna be gone soon yet I don’t think I’m going to want to delete it. I bought it,I enjoyed it, and if all of this mess had not happened I would still continue to use and enjoy it. Sigh. :-\
I had to remove the Joey app from my home screen and replace it with the Jerboa app (as in, put it in the same spot) because I kept accidentally opening Joey. -.-
I’d highly recommend Kagi! You can customise your search results as well, so you can make sure some websites show up more often than others (or even not at all), or higher up/lower down on the list.
