  • Yeah, I can understand being illiterate in something with a very complex writing systems (like chinese), but english has no excuses. Every language that’s standardized will have their own problems as fluidity of language and strict systems don’t exactly work that well together, but what english has going on would be so simple to improve even with just slight changes!

Masha Bell has analyzed 7000 common words and found that about 1/2 cause spelling and pronunciation difficulties and about 1/3 cause decoding difficulties. (from wikipedia)

  • Oh killing c would be a good start, since it’s basically entirely replaceable with k and s. I wouldn’t go as far as opposing all tradition though, since there’s no reason to fiddle with traditional letter systems if they still fulfill their purpose well enough. Like sure, for example japanese could be a lot easier with eliminating kanji, but there’s significant cultural background and meaning in those that’s worth preserving - and everything can still be written phonetically when needed anyway.

English alphabet on the other hand does not have such meaningful tradition in it that couldn’t be preserved with just at least tweaking the usage a bit to be more phonetic, as now it’s already become basically half-way gibberish (fish vs. ghoti). I don’t know french well enough to shame it as harshly, but it’s writing system could definitely improve with a bit of nuking too

  • I’m in Finland and swedish is our second official language. I’ve heard groups of fennoswede teenagers all speak swedish to each other, except they will throw in properly pronounced finnish curse words (like vittu and perkele). I guess they just are more powerful

  • Oh definitely, these things are not opposites or anything like that, it’s more of a philosophical difference… in vibe? lmao

The way I thought about it is, that “why” is the motivation behind choosing what to do, and “result” is what those actions lead to. These are not necessary the same as you can easily make mistakes in your judgement and cause effects you didn’t think of, or even lie to yourself (and/or others) and choose to ignore what you don’t like. Whatever actually happens is still the reality of the situation, so I think that ends up being more important than the motivations behind it, as people often lie about those. And being stupid isn’t really an excuse to do shitty things, either!

Though in most cases we don’t get full story anyway, so I guess judging based on either doesn’t really matter, yeah.

  • It’s the ‘why’ that really counts with this angle.

I’d argue the results are what actually counts, even more than the why. If what you gain by ghosting is more valuable than the alternative (for example being physically safe vs. hurt feelings), it’s fine. On the other hand if what’s gained is only like two minutes of saved time…

  • The Sims 2 is 100% the best of the series, yeah. At this point you can basically mod the game to look however you want, and mod it to play as you want, there’s insane amounts of mods and content available. There’s custom options for the UI, you can even get a fixed version for the launcher. I’ve been playing it for around 20 years now, and last I played “like you’re supposed to” was like 18 years ago lmao.

  • Sometimes sitting in weird positions might be a sign of pain in cats, even though it looks just cute and funny to us. If you ever notice continuing signs like that in your cat, especially paired with things like older age or licking some spots exessively, it’s best to consult vet just in case. They might be just lil’ weirdoes like they sometimes are, but it’s better to be safe than sorry
