I meant to leave that as a top level comment. But I am leaving it.

I still have a hard time leaving anything on my plate because of this.

I lived tough crowd. I have long felt I was the only person other than my wife that ever watched it though.

I had known for years I needed to quit, and I tried multiple times with no luck. Then there was a bunch of things all at once that got me to want to quit.
A family friend died of complications from a life of smoking (I think it was emphysema), I was unable up keep up with my 3 year old daughter’s level of activity, and while smoking at work one day a coworker walked past me and said something to the effect of you should quit. She was the first person that had said that and was not preachy about it. It was a very matter of fact statement with genuine care behind it. Later that day I found out she was a lung cancer survivor and former smoker. I made the decision to quit that day. I took off a week from work and locked myself in the basement. That was 20 years, 11 months, and 30 days ago. I have not smoked since.

These are models that were made before google bought nest.

We bought about half of what we had last year and had to ration it because it was so busy.
I live in a small rural New Mexico town, when I was a kid we only went trick or treating in the neighborhood behind the university. It was really the only place in town where houses were close enough to make it worthwhile. Over the years other people started going to these neighborhoods, parking between house’s and giving out candy from their vehicles. This was years before I ever heard of trunk or treat. It was probably '84, or '85 the first time I remember seeing these cars.
The last few years the businesses around our town’s plaza started doing trick or treating, it has grown so much the city took over organization and the entire town has started to participate.
It was 6-8 last year, this year it was 6-10 with people setting up as early as 3pm. I started to set up outside my shop at 5:30 and had kids lining up.

I think car manufacturers that put closed systems in vehicles and then abandon them should be required to either open source the system or push a final update that adds Android auto/apple car play (or whatever they are called)

You did not keep a dozen or so eggs in your treat bag for that contingency?

I would have paid for that as well. I would pay for that for my truck’s infotainment center as well.

I got 11 years out of mine. I had been wanting to upgrade it because it did not accept sensors.
Does it suck that it was still functional? Yup.

Use of the term originates from a 19 September 2014 strip of the webcomic Wondermark by David Malki titled The Terrible Sea Lion, cwhere a character expresses a dislike of sea lions and a sea lion intrudes to repeatedly ask her to explain her statement and attempts (in an exaggeratedly civil manner) to interrogate her views, following the characters into the privacy of their own home. “Sea lion” was quickly verbed, and noting this, Malki posted on his own Wondermark site, “I’m happy that it’s resonated with so many people”.
