Thanks for ur perspective, i think they r fair points, but you are giving up a lot of personal liberty and freedom of expression if you are OK with systems of something like PRC, but i suppose that can be classified as a choice However I think that the censorship that goes around such countries also makes it harder for us to know anything other than for example China might want to show us, we dont really have much idea of how internal dynamics work there and if u choose to believe personal testimonies its not pretty…

Lemmy politics i find a bit confusing and maybe i dont understand it very well but all forms of black and white communism /marxism-leninism always seemed to have lead to totalitarian states… like correct me if wrong, its fair and completely normal to say that whatever the west amd especially countries like USA an UK are bullshit and need to dismantled atleast large parts of it… but i dont understand why they jump instantly to models of china and Russia… like i said maybe i dont understand it well enough…
You have ascended the mortal plane by then
Amendments welcome! I suppose those who argue in universities are even smaller brained… They should appreciate the impartial unbiased and thoroughly investigated academic rigor of youtube comments!

Its about the same as i remember it being like 2.5 yrs ago tbh, which is actually a good thing… it still feels very community like unlike reddit in which the amount of activity is just so insane that you cant really participate on major subreddits, and the amount of bots are just insane….
I think what happened with lemmy is that during the whole reddit API saga a lot of people were furious and hurried to any platform they found good, and specifically in lemmy… it started getting popular with a particular type of demographic which u see popular today, however there was also some courtesy and acceptance that was lost, there was a lot of “holier than thou” attitude going around which is actually a big part of the reason why i nuked my old and quite active account here (which i regret tbh coz i did have some very good discussions), but i think that ended up alienating a lot of people that might have chosen lemmy over alternatives during that time
As of now it seems pretty fine tho, the voices do seem a bit more varied or atleast nuanced, but people just no longer are rushing to quit reddit now, and the base seems stable, the upvotes comments i see now r the same i used to see 1.5 years ago…

The map of your face?🤔
Its been a few months since i read anything lmao but i read the map of salt and stars and the beauty of your face last, tried to read the other zeyn joukhadars book abt being arab and a queer but it was just too much for me😅 i am not smart enough to read that lol

I would have to disagree, i dont really like every opinion here, it can get rather extreme, but there is a difference according to me over suggesting extreme action towards oligarchs, institutions which have hurt people etc etc (which is what i mostly see on lemmy) vs cheering on the death of innocent people just because they r of a different kind, although i should clarify here these extremist views are not that present is smthng like r/all but rather seems region dependent

You are right that the european/US side of reddit is uhmm decently left leaning (apart from the strange fetish for israel, not sure how many of them are bots), but the indian side (the one which was the most prevalent in my feed) was absolutely horrifying; i perhaps should have made the distinction clear hehe in my original post

Well i remember when i first made my first ever lemmy account like 3 yrs ago and that process of figuring out all the instances and federation thingy prolly filtered most binary thinkers out i suppose haha😅

Actually i also left lemmy partly because it can get pretty black and white too, but honestly its much better than any other form of such platform rn tbh
Btw idk if u r confusing south asia with southeast asia but trust me when I say its not pleasant here lmao

I was too young when 4chan was arnd lol, afaik /b/ was some unmoderated canvas or smthng right?

I recently read an article though i forgot which outlet, which was about how israel funded sm crazy amt of money to manage its image on social media, seems pretty plausible considering how monotonous and repetitive pro israel comments are…

I mean if you push me yes i can get how people might feel “polarized” by the ideas of “accepting” feminism, lgbtq, or other groups, but advocating to kill and destroy then, maybe its just me, but directly opposes human conscience, I am not exactly sure how can you cheer genocide when you actively see people suffering who are trapped in such situations

Hmm, yeah ig it maybe a fair possibility that most are just agnostic, and get influenced by opinions that are propagated by a ridiculous amount of funding

I would appreciate if u can clarify what u mean, but as far as my own understanding goes reddit and X themselves dont seem to actively remove posts/comments that dont adhere to a particular worldview/ideology, if i am not mistaken? Reddit relies on mods and i dont have much knowledge about X.
Peoples satisfaction isnt a metric of democracy, are a lot of people happy with chinas government? Maybe, minorities certainly arent tho But the reason its undemocratic is that there isnt really anything to challenge the CCP or its policies, and dissent is punished and censored, people have historically been happy under monarchs, but doesnt make them democratic…
