im still learning all this. but yeah having your own server could be easier. in my case the instance im on lemmy.one hasnt been affected at all by the beehaw thing. i can still see both. i see where the owners of beehaw are coming from i think, trying to stop the influx of unvetted user from sh.itjust.works and lemmy.world being able to post and comment. and they didnt say it was forever they were ope to reopening federation eventually if it works for them. they’re just trying to protect what they’ve worked so hard on.

I didnt get an elitist vibe at all from this post. just that he thinks lemmy is a better place for themselves than reddit is and explains why. their allowed to have an opinion.

If one instance were to become “corrupt” we can just leave and go to another instance though.

Stay on Lemmy. Obviosuly there’s probably going to be some reasons to go back to reddit every once in a while but i think that will be less and less overtime. fuck reddit.

i imagine a lot of subreddits will have to deal with a loooot of spam and bullshit posts about nothing in the near future. i can’t imagine anyone worthwhile that isn’t just powertripping actually wanting to mod a large sub anymore. whats the point? you arent getting paid anything, and its not even on your terms. like wtf. fuck reddit man.

lmfao no kidding. part of me is waiting to see the shitshow that happens to some subs without proper moderation. just the amount of bullshit thats gonna be submitted is gonna be intense. and the trolls, oh lord the trolls are gonna have a hayday with once properly moderated subs.

Idk I think more people will stick around then won’t. But I don’t think it will be immediate. It will be a slower migration as Lemmy gets better and better and easier to use and there is less and less of a reason to go back to reddit for anything. I’ll only ever go there if I have to for some reason but over time those reasons will become less and less as the communities here grow.
