I agree, it’s a tiny step in the right direction, but definitely too little too late.

It’s different here (at Walmart at least), they leave all their reusable bags at the self checkout where you can just buy them. But there is a lot of staff and the area is like a bullpen, so there is only one exit and there are employees looking at the carts’ contents.
As for the bags, for sure it’s a contentious topic. And I agree with you. As I mentioned in another reply, I see a lot of the sturdier reusable bags for sale at thrift store, they have to roll them up and put them in a bin they have so many…
Yes, and also for the compost. I used to store a few as well but they are so thin now, it’s not worth it.
I agree. I have a drawer full and a bunch in my car. I see a lot of them for sale for a buck at thrift stores, it’s kind of funny and sad.
Where I live (Montréal, Canada) plastic bags are banned everywhere. You either bring your own or buy a reusable at the cash. Some places (like grocery stores) also sell paper bags. You get used to it. If you have a car you leave a bunch of reusables in the trunk, if you don’t you just have to remember to bring one with you. The also sell some super thin ones you can carry in your pockets that are sturdy and large enough for a small run at the grocery store.
Considering the state the world is in, I’m at a point where news like this leave me totally indifferent. I used to feel concerned about privacy and freedom of choice when it comes to consumer goods but right now, with this company? I couldn’t give less of a shit.
If you are rich enough to buy one of these abominations, you are rich enough to put pressure on the manufacturer to tell them you are not ok with this (if in fact that is the case).
SmartTube is amazing. The dev is super reactive, there are updates almost daily. I watch YT mostly on my TV, I’m really thankful it exists!
Works fine here, thanks, interesting read!
That’s fucking terrifying!
You should read the article.
I didn’t miss the point, the point is not about seeing ads or not. Expand your thought process a bit.
You sound like you didn’t read the article. This not about seeing ads or not, it’s about large corporations allowing and making profits off advertising criminal activities.
I do the same! And you know, I think this is a hobby by itself. It’s also very useful when talking with strangers if they tell you they practice one of the hobbies you’ve binged on. You can ask them more pointed, interesting questions and it makes for great conversations!
My first thought reading the question “blood in the streets”. Coffee has been around for hundreds of years and is deeply cultural in many parts of the world. I don’t see any reality where that could happen.
Oh I see. I’m sorry, you guys in medical really have it fucking hard. Hang in there, and best of luck!
That sounds very satisfying, wow! I swear to god, half the meetings I attend are just soooo unproductive. Talk about this project, where we were, where we are, where we are going. But it always ends up that I have to jog people’s memory, ask why what was supposed to get done didn’t and when it will be. Rinse and repeat. I love that approach, makes people accountable and saves everyone’s time.
That’s a big one. Also lack of hobbies or passions.
That’s more like part-time honestly, doesn’t make any sense. But your hours are intense. I did that 50/60 hours a week years ago, I’ll never do that again. I’m at 35 now and considering asking for a 4 day 32 hours schedule next year. And I WFH full time. I’m done organizing my life around work.
A lot of great recommendations in the tread and I don’t have much to add but for something a little different, here are my suggestions :
DayDream Gaming - Cool and/or relaxing walks through game worlds like Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, horseback riding in RDR, etc.
dulevoz - Cabview train rides full of cool details like the number of tunnels, elevation, engine types, etc. You don’t need to be a train nerd, try it, it’s absolutely fantastic and relaxing!
Virtual Railfan - Live cams at famous railroad crossings, just for the fun of watching trains go by or watch the scenery
StreamTime Live - live cams at various harbours in the US
M. B. Archives - Commentary tracks from various movies (the latest being The French Connection, rip William Friedkin)
Ran across the same problem recently. Ended up using Bing, of all things lol
