I signed up for so many fediverse instances that are open for registration. Yes, so many. Maybe around 10 to 30 instances; I didn’t count. But I’m sure there are many. Am I the only one who does this? 🤣 How many fediverse instances have you signed up for?

I was on beehaw originally, then I switched to lemmy.world because I wanted to see the whole threadiverse, not just the parts that beehaw deigned to federate with, and now lemm.ee because it seems least likely to impulsively defederate, ban, or otherwise get in the way of me browsing Lemmy. Also it has downvotes. But I only ever used one at a time.

i have one account per distinct service i use, lemmy - mastodon - pixelfed. Not sure why you’d need so many accounts? to protect your highly unique nickname?

I also signed up to quite a few on Mastodon, Kbin (mbin), MissKey, Pixelfed, Lemmy, Loops. I did that to experience the local community. Some of those instances either ended, or became so horrific I deleted my account. I really only use 4 of them regularly.

Also, I have concerns that if I sign up for only one instance, that instance may shut down one day and I could lose all my data.

But are you evenly distributing your data amongst all your accounts right now (as in commenting/posting from all of them)? Because if not, your data would be lost if your main instance goes down anyway. What’s the point of the other accounts?

I can see that some instances have different rules and different kinds of names. So far, I have found that lemmy.world is the most reliable and general instance I can participate in. I discovered another instance called monyet.cc; the name looks funny. “Monyet” in Malay means “monkey.” That’s why I am currently awaiting their review to see if I can participate in that instance.

Only as many as I need for grouping my subscribed communities neatly. As there are no “multireddits” on Lemmy, your subscribed feed will be dominated by the popular communities, while all the small ones will be buried and forgotten. In order to solve that issue, I need a few accounts. If Lemmy grows, my need for accounts also grows. Maybe one day I’ll b have ten accounts.

Just the one right now. I haven’t really found a reason to sign up for more. I also really don’t want the added burden of maintaining multiple accounts. That sounds exhausting.

But do you actually have friends on friendica?

I try to stay on federated platforms that don’t require a social network effect from people I know irl.

Maybe 4? I was on kbin, then signed up on two mbin instances when Ernest had to leave. And I have one account on a random instance because I needed to PM someone over there and it was the only way to do so.

Five on Lemmy, one each on Mastodon and Pixelfed (techincally two each, since I moved instances). So that’s seven in total. More if other Fediverse services capture my fancy.

Different interests require different accounts on different services. Not everything is served by lemmy e.g music, video, and blogs. Lemmy can’t do it all --> different accounts.

My main Lemmy account on jlai.lu where I got all my subs, another one on another instance I only use to admin a community over there (there is less bugs when using a local account over a remote one), and one Mastodon account that I almost never use—it’s just, I don’t know, maybe it’s an age thing (50+) but I’m not that interested in receiving constant flow of short messages, even less so when said messages are so often emotional and/or polemical (as a general rule, I try to stay away from anger and resentment).

I have a few more accounts on various platforms I tried here and there and decided to not use. So, I would say those don’t count.
