Oh no, you!

They ruined each other. I preferred both when they didn’t affect each other - Your neighbor didn’t get her news and science lessons from a crackpot blog, and your favorite online community wasn’t based on identity politics. The only identity that mattered was your username.
I only know of one, and she’s an expert at everything related to fiber channel and tape drives. So I guess it might be that US conservatives are ideologically opposed to cheap long term offline storage.
I’m in the process of buying a new (to me), as my mid 90’s volvo simply isn’t big enough for the entire household (runs great though!).
And after looking at various cars, their prices, and the market in general, I have to seriously question how worth it a factory-fresh car is. A couple of years, and you get the same car for half the price.
Sure, there might be hidden faults, but with a reputable dealer this shouldn’t be a problem: One of my local dealers sell used cars with warranty as if it was new.

It’s mostly to combat spam. I created a lemmy account with an obviously bogus e-mail account, hopped on matrix and reached out to the instance admins and they activated my account manually after I asked nicely.
As far as I know it is possible right now. There are some really impressive video generative AIs out there. Us regular people probably cannot do it, as nobody who runs such a model would let us use their resources to that extent.
But if someone with such a model decides to go all in, they could probably do so now. However, “now” does not mean instant. They could push the button now, and then the computers start to churn, and considering the size and complexity of a full movie it’s going to take a while.
And then you have the first pass done. The first of what will probably be many. I find it hard to believe that you’d create the entire movie in one go. Because if the AI fucks up just a few details, the entire movie will be garbage. It is better to do it scene by scene, and then stitch them together afterwards. So you run multiple passes for every scene until you have what you want, you stich them together, and then do whatever else you need to do to release this end result.
I’m sure the NVIDIA and AMD CEOs are currently having wet dreams of someone deciding to do this, because it’s going to cause GPU prices to skyrocket.
I’ve always considered an expat to be different from immigrant in that it’s temporary.
I lived abroad from 2009 to 2011, simply because I could, as my employer had to fly me in to work anyway - It didn’t matter to me whether my home airport was TRD or PRG. I was chatting with someone local, and when I told them about my situation they’re actually the ones who used the word expat. Personally I considered myself a long term tourist.
In that case you can expect relatively little humidity. While the cold will feel biting on your skin, it won’t be that bad, provided you stay layered and dry. Avoid sweating, or this will change!
If you’re shoveling snow, dress down once you get your blood pumping.
Northern scandinavian, here.
This depends on where specifically. Near the ocean it’s not that cold at the moment (well, depends what you’re used to, I guess. I get around fine with t-shirt and a light jacket. Temp varies between 5C and 15C nowadays.
But in general, I suggest you bring a sweater , some woollen socks, and a jacket that can handle rain/slush/snow. Staying dry means staying warm. Dressing with layers is better than one thick coat.
Snow will set in soon, though, so if you’re going to be working outside I recommend some gloves. Preferably two pairs, so one can dry off while you’re wearing the other pair.
May I ask where specifically you’re going? Coast vs inland makes A LOT of difference. Humidity can make 5C near the coast feel colder than -20C inland. Plus wind isn’t as much of a factor far away feom the ocean.
Somewhat relevant, I would like to recommend this one: https://thedailywtf.com/articles/classif-wtf-the-virtudyne-saga
It’s a fun read about a company that grew because of the 90’s IT bubble, and how it all came crashing down when the bubble burst and it was obvious that the investors would probably never get any return on their investment.
I prefer the left road. The right one leads to a perception of being awkward AND stupid.
It was the equivalent of 8 dollars, so I think I’ll survive.
Apart from my mortgage, I’m finally debt free, and I’m running a surplus every month after all the bills are paid.
Well, except what we jokingly refer to as my “cripling gambling-induced credit card debt”; I returned some bottles while at the store the other day. The payout wasn’t a lot, but enough to cover the mundane items I was buying. Instead of dealing with the bottle return receipt I pushed that button where it buys you a small lottery ticket instead and the money is donated to red cross. Not surprisingly, I didn’t win. When at the checkout counter I realized that my GF still had my usual card after borrowing it earlier, so I had to use my credit card to pay the laughably small sum.
But not enough.
Also, I suggest Office Space.
